Could “Gossip” guy Penn Badgley be over his hit show? The 24-year-old actor didn’t seem too enthused by the CW staple while promoting his latest project — the high-stakes financial thriller “Margin Call” — at the Sundance Film Festival. The actor got laughs during a press event for the film when he said his first reaction upon learning about “Call’s” all-star ensemble (including everyone from Kevin Spacey to Demi Moore) was, “Are you sure you want me? Have you seen ‘Gossip Girl?’” In another subtle dig at the show, Badgley added, “["Margin Call" is] hopefully the beginning of what I’m really aiming for, which is really, actually, acting. “Gossip” fans who want to watch Badgley “actually” act can check out “Margin Call” when Lionsgate releases the film later this year. |

I think that was more of a diss of himself, more than the show. Like a little fish in a big pond type of thing

“It was a watershed experience. In truth, I cannot say enough about it. It was like class. I never had any training and this is the first of many steps toward being me [creatively],” he says. “Gossip Girl and Easy A are great, but this is the first time people will see that I’m an actor. [The film] will change what people think I want to do. With Facebook and Twitter, people think they know you, but hopefully now they’ll see that I’m an actor. It doesn’t change what I want to do, but how they see me.”
